Reflections on Wiki Experience

We do not have to come to school next week, due to cny therefore we were tasked to do e-learning online. It is a group assignment for us to read on the article "Google being investigated". Our group were tasked to give our own opinion and going around the class interviewing the other group on their interview on this article.

My significant learning experience for me working in a group is that i get to expand my views on this particle through the sharing activity whereby we speak about how we feel about the article itself.

As an invidual contributor,i have learnt how to speak up and contribute at the approriate time.

One of the challenging experience that we had is that sometimes we do not agree with each other views so we had to debate it out and convince each other.

One of the advices that i would give to the next group starting a similar project is that i recommend the listeners to pay attention to the speaker and process what the speaker is talking before commenting.

I would use a wiki as a research in my Diploma to enhance my research.

Twitter and Blog

Twitter has only become more popular in Singapore recently. Most of us were using more of blog than twitter because of the features. I, too was not interested in Twitter as i find it very lame, "mini-blogging" about what you doing now and then. However, after learning more about Twitter through EIR, i find that Twitter is actually a good platform for us to update each other about what we are doing. For eg, we can get to follow our friends on twitter so whenever our friends tweet, we would be able to see it. Likewise for EIR, we can "follow" our classmates and teachers so whenever there is any updates on Twitter, we would be able to see it once we login.

Comparing this with blog, i prefer twitter as we can get frequent updates of what our friends are doing unlike blog whereby you need more time to blog about your recent activities.
Twitter allow us to "tweet" to our teacher if we encounter any questions or research difficulties, likewise for blog, we can always visit our peer's blog for any information on topics if they have updated it.

My dream holiday

My dream holiday would be paris, a place that i wanted to go since young because i like the environment there.

i used accuracy to evaluate this website. This website provides accurate information because the accomodations, places of interest, museum etc etc that are stated there are the same as what i checked from other websites.

Comment on classmate's blog.

After browsing through a few of my classmates' blog, i find Chan Shiqi's blog rather interesting as she had put in a lot of effort in it as the template are much different from all those customized ones. Besides that, she upload her information about herself on the blog as well and she added a tagboard onto her blog as well so that other readers can comment and communicate with her through the tagboard. I feel that she had done a good job updating her posts as well as all her post are up to date.

Here is the link to her blog, http://lovingsomething-2707.blogspot.com/

Citizen journalism

Citizen journalism is the concept of the members of the public contributing news and information for eg, www.stomp.com.sg. This is one website whereby members update pictures, videos, news or information to let members of the public know the more recent happenings in Singapore.

For the evaluation part, i would like to use accurate to evaluate stomp. I choose this criteria because i feel that stomp is not 100% accurate because sometime the pictures they post may be edited or even information they post may not be 100% accurate as they are not proven by anyone. Furthurmore, you just have to sign up to be a member at Stomp in order to post something which means everyone can be a member of Stomp!

From this lesson, i learnt about other criteria on how you rate a website; currency, coverage, etc etc....

if i were to create my own version of "Stomp", i would ensure that the information that are contributed by the members must be 100% accurate before they post it. Besides that, i would like to have a moderator at Stomp to supervise the website to ensure that no one use abusive language at Stomp.

Practical 6!

I'm so busy with my projects and assignments that i totally forgotten about updating this blog until the teacher reminded us. After reading a few of my classmate's blog, i think I am very behind time and I think i will have to catch up with them.

So from practical 6,

I explored EBSChost databases,

i did a search on impacts of peer pressure on youth behavior but i did not get any results. So i tried a search on peer pressure and...

i got back 6655 results and most of them were articles which comes with citations. I read through a few of them and i feel that they are not relevant to my topic and is of no help to my research.

After that, i explored another database, factiva

"a database for global news and business information from newspaper, trade publications, news photo, news wires & media transcripts. Excellent source of company research which includes financial statements and ratios, list of key competitors, trade articles, analyst report & more.."

and i tried typing impacts of peer pressure of youth behavior in it and it didnt work as well, so i tried peer pressure instead.

i had a couple of pages of results and most of them from information from newspaper all over the world. I find it rather irrelevant to my topic of research but if i have the time i would read up on these news as i find them rather interesting because it is news from other countries, one can gain more general knowledge from these databases.

I think its more effective to use search engine, meta search engine and subject directories than the databases as the information i get from there are more accurate and related to what i need for my research. But however, if i want to increase the efficiency of my research, i would do a search on database as well as i want my content to be more specific in details.

For my wiki experience, I had seen some of my course-mates posts on wiki and i find them rather interesting as we are doing on the same topic, yet our views are far apart from each other. Wiki has become a platform for me to learn more about other's people views and in my free time, i would look at updates of other topics as well.
