Fourth lesson!

Today lesson was rather interesting because i get to know 2 new search facilities ; Meta Crawler and Subject directory. We were tasked to find out the difference between this two, their PROS and CONS and which one is a better search engine.


so lets start with Metacrawler



I search for impact of peer pressure on youth behaviour

The results were from 5 different engines, meaning they pick up the most relevant information that they collected from the 5 different search engines. Therefore, I feel that Metacrawler complies information from the search engines itself instead from the websites.


Lets take a look at the subject directory, Yahoo




I think the subject directory gives very limited results and I feel that somehow it has got totally no link with what i am searching for.

However, there are some more popular categories at the side which you can browse on, this makes searching for information easier and faster.

So in conclusion, i find Metacrawler a better search facility compared to Subject Directory, yahoo. The reason being that MetaCrawler has more relavant information and it only has 3 pages for me to browse through. I do not like the subject directory as the results often produce irrelavant results which i do not want.

Second life

Hello, will be sharing with SecondLife experience with you guys!We are suppose to do virtual shopping at Second life so i presume virtual shopping is free and we can get the stuffs that we cannot buy in real life here!

I went to this place called Men's Fashion at Tiperia Island and i found these cool sneakers here..but sadly i dont have any money to buy!

And as i was moving off to my next destination for shopping , i came upon something interesting!!

GAY FUN WORLD!

I didnt know that club do exist in this second life too! COOL!

My next destination was at this shop selling denim jeans!

And my last station was at this shop selling blazers!

After I am done with this virtual shopping experience, i find that shopping in the virtual world is much more fun than E-shopping as it got more variety and you can get to try them on to see see how it will look like on you. Besides that, it also allows us to make friends with others especially for people who are shy in real life, this is a very good platform for them to make friends. Furthurmore, we can dress whatever we want because no one knows who you really are.

Google ? Google Scholar?

Today my lecturer showed us practical 3 and introduced to us about Google Search Engine and Google Scholar. I started with Google search as I am more familiar with it and whenever i need help for projects or any other things that i am uncertain of, I would "GOOGLE" it. However Google.scholar is something i never heard of before in my entire life and I was very curious about it to see how it look like.

I think that Google has more features and provide more information compared to GoogleScholar . It allows us to search for images,videos and maps which we cannot do on GoogleScholar. Besides that, Google provides us with more relevant information and 100 times sources than GoogleScholar. GoogleScholar provides us with articles, patents and etc etc which normally is not what we wanted.

For me, i prefer Google as it is more useful in terms of finding information which is straight to the point whereas Googlescholar show us articles, patents and etc etc.

At the end of the lesson, i learnt about citation. It is always important to acknowledge other people work when you adopt words or ideas from them.

My shopping list

If i were to spend $500 on online shopping, i would get some clothing for myself ! These shirts are from japan and i think they are very nice. It cost around $80 for each shirt including shipping fee so probably i will get 3 of these shirts.

Another $ 260 left ! The next item i want to get would be the latest ipod nano!

Reflections for EIR 2nd lesson!

The second lesson of EIR was interesting as we got to learn about different type of search facilities. According to the list online, there are 4 categories which are organisational website, blog, magazine/journal and discussion forum. From my research, i found out that due to the organisational website always provide the most accurate details, with pictures and statistics due to the fact that they have a reputation to maintain so if i were to do a research, i would always go organisational website for information as it provides me with the most information. We all know that blogs are very personal. It is a platform for people who wants to express their opinions online as we know that different people have different perspective views. Normally blogs are link from one to another. As for magazines, they are rather detailed and it often comes with pictures however i feel that it is not as accurate as organisational websites. Lastly, a discussion forum is a forum whereby people from all over the world come to discuss and give feedback about certain things thus i feel that if you are buying products or electronic stuffs, you should visit forums to know what other people feedback about it first.

Each of us is suppose to choose a topic for our portfolio. I haven chosen to do a research on the impact of peer pressure on youth behaviours. I have chosen this topic because i find it interesting as most of us, during our youth has fallen to peer pressure by our peers before be it good or bad. So i would like to share about how peer pressure actually affect and changes our life.

I benefitted a lot from this week EIR lesson , hopefully next week will even be a better one! :D
